Originally from Glasgow, Nancie and Edward Shieff lived in Birmingham for nearly 50 years and were active members of Singers Hill Synagogue. Edward had accepted a position as a chest physician in 1948 on the creation of the National Health Service and Nancie, a collector of antique silver, eventually started exhibiting and trading at antique fairs around the country specialising in silver and jewellery. Edward was a keen gardener and kept a pristine front lawn. Nancie taught piano and worked in a record shop before marrying. She continued playing and enjoyed attending concerts at Symphony Hall, Birmingham. They moved to Leicester in 1997 to be near their only child Leonie, son-in- law David Lebens and their grandchildren.
