Ownership of headstones, cleaning, and repairs

Please note that the Leicester City Council maintains the grounds at Gilroes but all headstones are the responsibility of the family.

Gary Grant, who maintained the headstones in Jewish Gilroes for many years, has now retired. David May kindly took charge in the interim but now we would like to recommend a new independent company, Mark Room of Remembering You Grave Tending. They provide a good service with similar pricing to Gary Grant.

If your relative’s stone breaks or becomes unsteady, and so a danger to the public, then the Leicester City Council will arrange for the stone to be laid flat. There is no obligation on the family to have the stone re-erected. However, if you wish to have it repaired or to have a new stone made then please contact Mark Room.
